Allie’s Story

My name is Allie. I work as an Assistant State Attorney. I’m 29 years old, and this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My family had no history of breast cancer before me. Because I’m so young, I never worried about it. I just felt something odd one day. I’ve now, 6 months later, had a double mastectomy and reconstruction. I went through 12 weeks of chemotherapy (taxotere and cytoxin). I also had to freeze my eggs because of the damage chemo can cause to your ovaries. I haven’t had kids yet, but I want to so there was no choice but to do it. I took time off work, and I lost my hair but I got through it and now it’s over. I’m back at work, in the courtroom, prosecuting criminals. I have a wig that looks just like my long blonde hair used to. My friends think I just got hair extensions, but I always tell them it’s a wig anyway. I’m proud of the truth. I’m running and doing spin classes every day. Eventually my hair will grow back, but I’ll still be a stronger person for what I went through.  ~ Allie
